Often looked at as "America's Range Rover," the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a tremendously capable, and luxurious off-road capable SUV. In its fourth generation, the current Jeep Grand Cherokee debuted last year. This year Jeep adds to the 2012 Grand Cherokee lineup with the track-ready Grand Cherokee SRT8.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is available with three engines, two transmissions, and five drivetrain configurations. Standard on the Grand Cherokee is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 that produces 290 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, bolted to a five-speed automatic transmission. Optional is a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 that produces 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque when bolted to its six-speed automatic transmission. Grand Cherokee SRT8s get a 6.4-liter V-8 good for 470 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, bolted to a five-speed automatic.
The Grand Cherokee comes standard with rear-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive are available. The Grand Cherokee SRT8 gets a performance-oriented all-wheel-drive system.
Inside, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee seats five comfortably in available leather seating, with many soft-touch materials, and tech features you'd expect in a more expensive SUV. Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8s get a performance-oriented interior layout.
